I have been eyeing off terrariums for a while and I always thought I should make one for myself, just the way I like it! New York, New York Part 1

I can't believe that it only has been a month since our recent trip to New York, it seems like a very distant memory now. It was my first time there and definitely a dream city to visit (crossing it off my list!). New York has been everything you would expect: busy, beautiful, full of people (everywhere) and oh so fashionable.

There was lots of highlights to our trip, Central Park must have been one of them. It is so big and after walking around for few hours for 2 days I must have seen actually 1/3 of it. Park dominated with yellow coloured leaves as Autumn was well and truly in full swing. On the second day we decided to ice skate at the Trump Ice Skating arena in Central Park. Amazing expierience even though I haven't skated in over 15 years! (No I didn't fall over!).

New Year's Resolutions

For the past two days I have been busy thinking about the new year ahead and what resolutions I should make. One of them is to learn 1 new recipe each week, which can involve anything such as breakfast, snacks, dinner, desserts, smoothies and even cocktails (mmm). I will also blog about my adventures in the kitchen which should motive me more to stick to my resolution. There are quite a few recipes that are on my list and I haven't had the time to get to them:

Another Perth Upmarket has crept up so quickly, it seems like last one was just few weeks ago! A lot of lovely customers, some of the already rocking Kashen Jewellery pieces and showing them off to me (thank you I appreciate it!). Now i worked a bit hard on my market display so I hope I did the job well! The only problem I always seems to have is to fit everything in, my pieces are quite big so they take up a bit of room, other than that I was quite pleased!

I have had a slight fascination with ceramic jewellery for some time now and I have finally found a ceramic class here in Perth that I wanted to do for a while. It's a six week course starting in June, I am really looking forward to learning different techniques and getting ideas for my next collection. Unwrapped was a huge success with lots people roaming around cute little Angelo Street checking all the wares and enjoying live entairtainment. Weather was beautiful and I was very lucky to be in the shade all the long! I have almost sold out of the leather necklaces (they are so new they dont even have a name yet!) both the red and the mustard coloured ones have sold and I have orders for more! i am so glad that the new pieces were so well received. Unfortunately breeze came in around 2pm and I had take both of my tree displays down as they wobbled so much and everything started flying off! Unwrapped the marketplace is on this Sunday 27th March in South Perth and Kashen Jewellery will be one of the stall holders. Perth Upmarket 2011!

It's that time again, first Perth Upmarket of 2011 is just 2 days away! It will be held in it's usual location at UWA Winthrop Hall on the 20th of March this Sunday. I am looking forward to intruduce new pieces from both of my collections and see people's reactions, I always love to hear what they think about the pieces. Also Mother's Day is coming up (May 8th) so it will be a good time to pick up something unusual for your mum, and you wont have to stress about it later! Please come say hello if you stop by Kashen Jewellery's stall - I will be upstairs in the Winthrop Hall.

Organising your workspace

The thing I have been dreading for the past few weeks is to organise my small but functional workspace. I have been quite busy organising for markets and start wholesale orders so it hasn't been my biggest priority!I do like my workspace tidy and well organised as it makes my work process a lot easier. Probably like any other designer I am absolutely obsessed with stationery! Today I have received these beautiful stamps and twine from Marchare and they came packed in the cutest japanese paper. I will be using stamps mostly for price tags for Kashen Jewellery, but since I have got the entire alphabet I can go crazy!

I have two big markets on this month, first Perth Upmarket on the 20th of March, and then Unwrapped on the 27th of March, so it will be a very busy month! I am pretty tired of my market displays, so I have been looking for a bit of inspiration from others. I have come across so many things that I would have not normally thought of, it blew my mind :) I particularly love the display on the photo right below, I love the cube boxes, the little trees and bunnies that decorate the space, the mannequin dummy and the tree branch looks so whimsical! Very inspiring...

So as I have mentioned previously I had the photoshoot for the brand new collection yesterday. We took so many photos and all of them are amazing ( I had a sneak peak today) and it is all thanks to my talented friend Alyce from The Vintage Valley and my beautifull model Candice. We had so much fun and after the shoot went to lunch at the Subi then continued on at The Garden, ahh what a great day! New photos should be up on the website soon, I will keep you updated!

Fashion Fights Breast Cancer

I have been absent for a while but have been so busy with finishing up my new collection! But I have finally wrapped things up and it is finished! The photoshoot for it is this Sunday and it should be up on the web very soon after that. Yay! I am so excited about it, I have incorporated lots of beautiful colours and metallics, perfect to wear with those summer dresses!

On another note, Kashen Jewellery was asked to accessorize Pardon My French label at the Fashion Fights: Breast Cancer fashion parade. I have also donated 3 beautiful pieces to be auctioned off and money will go to the Breast Cancer Foundation, so a very worthy cause! The event is tomorrow night, I will try and take few snaps but my camera isnt that great.
Which is why i am planning to buy a new one!

Made On The Left - the market!

I was part of the Made On The Left market this weekend on Sunday, July 18th. It was a great turnout, lots of shoppers and lots of talented designers of course! What made it also better was the venue itself (The Saint! Innaloo) where people could get lunch after or just enjoy a drink on the warm sunny afternoon. Well done Made On The Left organisers!

Jewellery Branding

So I have 2 big markets coming up. First one is Perth Upmarket on June 27th and second one is Made On The Left on July 18th. Display and how you brand your jewellery is always very important and I have started make more bags, labels and I made new earring holder. Please excuse my photographic skills and my very old camera, this why I let professionals take photos of my pieces!

With colours I stick with black & white as those are my brand colours - http://www.kashenjewellery.com/ . I use paper punches that match my logo (well sort of but I think its close enough) and I have made up a stamp for carry bags. Boxes are next on the agenda, I have found the cutest black noodle boxes at Lincraft, I just have to make some labels to go on them. I actually enjoy making all of these now, at uni it was always the very last thing on my mind!

I am obsessed with leather at the moment as my new collection will be made out of it. I have been looking into other jewellery designers that make leather jewellery and I came across some beautiful pieces. I absolutely love the multi coloured leather necklace in petal shape by Giulia Boccafogli, she mix matched the colours and it works so well! I also adore long flat bead necklace by Tania Clarke, especially love the length!

I have been researching different patterns for my laser cut designs. I would love to have beautifull and intricate designs but the more complicated the design is, the more it costs too. And its not cheap! So at the moment I am trying to come up with something fairly simple but eye catching. Upcoming collection!

I have started working on my new collection just recently. For the main material I have chosen leather which I have really worked with before. The most exciting part was picking out the material itself, there was so many different colours and textures to choose from! It was very dangerous (for my wallet) but I left with 6 large sheets of leather, each different colour and thickness. At the moment I am still trying to work out what theme I would like to incorporate in this collection. I am trying to learn how to use Adobe Illustrator to help me create the designs I am after, I will then get most of the pieces laser cut once everything has been set up. But thats at least 2 weeks away and before that lots and lots of work.....ahhh! Easter Break

I am so looking forward to some days off! Unfortunately I only get 3 and not 4 as i have to work on Saturday, but it still should be a fairly relaxed weekend. Tomorrow my aim so to clean up my very messy workspace, set up the pendant drill I got for Christmas and set up my recently purchased snap press machine. After all of that I am hoping to get a bit crafty and make some pretty flower pins. I saw the cutest ones on www.100layercake.com/blogspot. I have had the past month off to go to Poland and visit my family. The whole 4 weeks of bliss, no stress and cold weather with snowstorms that I actualy looked forward to! Unfortunately my holiday came to an end and so Im slowly reorganizing myself and getting back to it. In 2 weeks time is the Perth Upmarket http://www.perthupmarket.com.au/home.html on the 28th of March where I will be selling my pieces yet again. I am really looking forward to that as I always get the much needed input from the lovely customers and it gives me lots of satifaction when people admire my stuff. I also get asked a lot what my current collection is made out of to which I have to reply over and over again "It's made out of glass". Apparently its very hard to believe. So if you're free that Sunday make sure you head down to Perth Upmarket as there is going to be over 100 designers with great handmade buys and if you spot me come and say hello!

As I have started my range my constant problem (which hasn't been completely resolved yet) is packaging for my pieces. As my latest collection mostly consists of glass I need something sturdy enough to support it, at the same time i dont want it to be too big and heavy. I have been looking for an inspiration everywhere but I found some cool ideas at etsy. I love the fabric idea, so many endless possibilities. So after much research and delibaration i still havent decided what i want, but i think if I start playing around i might just come up with something! Have a look below what I have come across...

This latest collection 'Bower Bird'by Dinasour Designs is just fun and quirky-i love it!!! Looks like they have basically cast rocks into resin shaping them at the same time. I really like how they used clear resin in most of them to show off beautiful colours and textures of the rocks.These are my fav:
